I'm probably going to be crucified for saying this, but oh well.
Up until now I hadn't even considered the fact that the albums is to have only seven tracks. SEVEN tracks!! That's an EP! Don't get me wrong, a couple of them are rumored to be massive 12 to 14-minute epics, but I doubt they all will be. My only gripe about the first album is that with 8 tracks it's entirely too short, clocking in at a grand total of 54 minutes and 8 seconds!
Epic songs are great, but they are different in that you pretty much have to listen to the whole thing in order to fully appreciate it. Much of my music listening (90%) is done while driving. Much of my driving is less than 10 minutes! I need songs that are more accessible; songs that are short enough to fully enjoy on a short drive to and from work. It is very difficult, for example to start listening to Blind Guardian's 14-minute opus "And Then There Was Silence," stop it, and start again half-way through it several hours later. It doesn't do the song justice. On the other hand, one of my absolute favorite songs is Wintersun's "Beyond the Dark Sun," and it is extremely short! Songs don't have to be long to be epic! Less tracks, even though they may be significantly longer, seems like less music to enjoy.
Anyway, I suppose I'm rambling, and of course nothing I say here will likely have any effect on the production of Time but I just thought I'd put my to cents in about this. What do you guys think? _________________

Well, although the S/T is 54 minutes long, I find that a really good length, generally listening to albums all the way through I do tend to get bored quite quickly but the fact that all my favourite songs (S/T) can be played back to back in that amount of time without boring me is awesome =D
Also Time is supposedly around 65 minutes or more, so that'll be interesting to see the song lengths, even if there are a few epics, such as "Sons of Winter and Stars", they have to all be a pretty chunky length like 4:30 - 5 minutes at least to fill that 65+, which will be cool =D
I'm personally hoping for some ridiculously long intricate solo's and melodies I can drool over hahaha _________________ http://www.last.fm/user/infernoborealis

It's fine by me, there will be some about 6-8 minutes i think like the first album, and a couple of really long songs 14+
54 minutes is a standard album length i think - lots of bands do a lot shorter - some do longer... but none are as intricate as Wintersun, you can tell Jari spends a lot of time on each song to make it the best he can, which can't be said for a lot of bands.
and Time is 70mins + isn't it? |

| Some bands make short songs, some band make long songs. Listen to bands that make short songs while driving. Problem solved! |

First of all, 7 tracks do not make an album an EP. I believe that the new album will be atleast 60 minutes long, so it's not really an EP.
I quite like the fact that the album only has 7 tracks. If I want to listen to albums with 12-10 shorter songs, then I'll have to look elsewhere.
The average length of a Time-song will propably be quite long and there will most propably be more than that one song clocking at over 10 minutes and I can see how it is a slight problem for some. It may not be fit to listen in short car-trips. I know absolutely what you mean, cause I've been in a car for a less 10 minute work trips every day. We did actually choose more shorter songs to listen, but we also listened to some Opeth from time to time. (And never were able to finish the song). But this didn't really bother me that much. I just figured that Opeth isn't the best band for short car trips.
I'd have to point out that most of my favourite albums have a small number of tracks. Why? Because there is no room for fillers.
But anyway, I don't know the actual lengths for every song, but I think there should be a couple of slightly shorter songs. Isn't that enough?
I mean, if you want an album that REALLY DOES NOT fit for short work trips, go check Moonsorrow - V Hävitetty. |

Jari explained on an interview that the whole album it's going to be HUGE and he even says he need to cut something because the CD's maximun length is 74 min!!! So the album will be a 74 epic!
And they're going to be 8 tracks.
Intro + Seven Songs.
So more or less each song will last 10 min but Sons of Winter and Stars.
I think that's pettry long but for a massive epic CD is awesome.
I'd allways loved long tracks so for me it's not a problem.
And the best way for listening music is...well... listening to music. Driving with music is ok, but listening to it without doing anything else is THE way to fully appreciate it. _________________

OK! Here we go again....
The album has an intro as a separated from the first song.
-the intro is about 4 min long
-first song Sons of Winter and Stars is 14 minutes
-Land of snow and Sorrow is about 8 minutes.
-Time is over 10 minutes
-The Way of the Fire over 10 minutes
-One with the shadows about 6 minutes
-Storm with intro is over 13 minutes
-Silver Leaves is over 10 minutes
-Outro is about 2 minutes
all of the songs will have an "intro" except One with the shadows..
So it means that the album will be more near 80 minutes of music...
So even 7 songs..you can consider this as 2 albums almost at once..
So no ep´s.....sorry.
